Lost in the rain and the first 24 hours

We woke up to a rainy morning yesterday. It was forecasted to rain most of the day. So our morning plan was for me to venture out to find an umbrella, laundry detergent, breakfast and coffee while Sarah did a little work. Shortly after I parted our apartment I found an umbrella at an outdoor market. But my first victory was short lived.

Greece is like most European cities. It's filled with a labyrinth of roads and back alleys that all look the same. The Greek named roads make it even harder to distinguish and remember them all. As I snaked down the alleys and roads I quickly lost my sense of direction. The increasing rainfall only amplified my lack of direction. So with no map I quickly fell victim to the city of Athens. I was lost!!

I kept my hopes up and decided to turn around, to try and backtrack. My dumb luck eventually helped me find my way to a recognizable landmark. I was saved! I picked up some coffee and two delicious Greek cheese pies and headed back.

After Sarah had finished some work and we agreed on some sights to see we headed for Syntagma Square. Here you'll find the Parliament building guarded by the Evzones. The Evzones are part of the Greek National Guard and stand post, motionless for an hour at a time, twenty four hours a day. We did pose for pictures with them and Sarah even got in trouble with the guard overlooking the Evzones when she tried to pose behind one.

After checking out the Evzones we walked past The Temple of Olypian Zeus.

Since it was getting a little late we headed for the Acropolis museum. Here we saw all kinds of statues from Acropolis.
